change is in the air

Hey everyone!

I know some of you followers/readers are on my facebook and/or twitter, so maybe you already know? I mentioned this more on twitter actually.

Change is coming

My blog will probably be changing in a few ways by New Years [ie; 2012] for a few reasons.
1 - layout
I've been talking to my lovely boyfriend about helping me do some customization for my blog layout and stuff. Make it more acceptable to the eye. He does coding for a living, so he's going to help me figure out what's good and what'll work. I've got to figure out what I can do for a banner with photoshop [which I don't have ...] I'll figure something out

2 - posts
Actually, this is somewhat of a brief announcement but nothing is set in stone - YET! We're actually looking at moving at the end of November and because of this, I'll probably be lacking in posts for December, between crazy xmas plans, shoppers and the possibility of no internet .... it'll be hard to post. Unless I can figure out how to switch the internet from being at my parents, to the new place [since parents don't really need the net] then I'll be able to post.

3 - change of posts
Since I'm moving, I may not be posting about the same stuff as before. I'll try to keep it pretty similar. My goal is that this is a beauty blog, but it's somewhat more personal than that. I'm aware. It'll change.

So that's pretty much the biggest changes you'll see coming up. Now for answering the question most people have been asking me:
What are you doing for Hallowe'en costume/makeup? And are you going to do a video?

Ha ha, I love people sometimes! I know last year I promised a video and I did do it BUT it turned out awful. I procrastinated so much, I couldn't re-do the video. This year I'm going to try and do last year's idea at the very least. I'm not 100% what I'm doing for my costume this year but I need to figure it out soon because Matt's work is possibly having a Hallowe'en party. I've got a couple ideas for makeup, but again it depends on the costume.

I'll probably do a video of some sort about that also. Hunting for a costume I mean ...

I've been quite stuck for makeup ideas lately, so I spoke with Ronnnie [aka bowsandcurtseys] about some suggestions. there was a shirt I really wanted to wear, and I wanted to also rock some red lips. So she suggested a simple eye with cat liner.

Beautiful suggestion and very classic. Here's what I went to work with that day!

Also I wanted to try something new with my nails.

I took "Cowardly Lyin" from China Glaze and "Hot Coco" from Essie and got this gorgeous look.

To get this look is really easy.
Take "Hot Coco" and put 2 coats on all fingers you want. Make sure it's completely dry, then take a "Cowardly Lyin" and put a relatively thin coat on top. As if you're doing "Shatter" or "Crackle" look. Let dry, put top coat on and you're done. Simple.

No, that is not an engagement/wedding right. The one with hearts is the Daughter's Pride ring my parents got me, the plain silver band is something I found. I wear it there to even out rings on both sides of my hands.

For those who aren't Canadian, this past weekend was Thanksgiving. Saturday I worked closing shift, but Sunday Matt and I went to his mum and step-dad's place. There was about 9 of us [Matt's mum, step-dad, grandparents, step-grandparents, his brother, Matt and I] and we were so lucky it was beautiful weather.

I got a few new shirts [upcoming haul, promise!] and wore one on Sunday. It's purple and black, but to get the contrast colour right Matt took a photo of me and inverted it. Ended up doing a yellow and green look.

I was considering doing a video on this look, but then I realized that I've done a video on basically the same thing. Yes my technique has improved, but it'd be just repeating itself. Only difference is that I used different colours and there's black liquid liner on top lash line. No "eldorado" or "mildew" used in the above photos. Otherwise, the same. Same idea I guess.

Monday was Thanksgiving at my house.

I swear, between both days I really needed to workout today. I did and I'm glad I got to do 40mins before pain started.

Anyways, I'm off. This is a long enough blog, haha!

Love and makeup,
Katie

Little New, Little Old, Little Nothing?

Hey everyone!

I've had so many interviews lately [2 different salons and one bankruptcy/debt company] and I'm pretty hopeful something will come up. It has to really, I'm just tired of being home all the time and not being able to afford anything.

Once I get a job, then we can start getting set up for moving and hopefully cut a deal nd get a mid-month move in. I don't know but it's hopeful.

We literally have almost everything. Couches, tv, bed, table, etc. Between both sides of the family. His mum is giving us a wok .... which honestly I'm stoked to make stir-fries. I'm not big on cooking now but I'm willing to try :D

Speaking of family, we're actually going to his dad's place this weekend. He lives a bit out of the city and between his hours and Matt's hours, things weren't making sense to go. Now keep in mind that I am a city girl through-and-through, but a lot of my family is from the country. So this weekend will be interesting.

I'm planning on doing a video early next week for a smokey look that doesn't include black shadow. It'll have probably a little black if I do eye liner but the idea is more of a day to night idea. Like if you're going out after work and wanna wear a neat shadow. Well you'll get it when you see it.

I'll keep everyone posted!

After 3 Days of Attempted Blogging ....

Hey Everyone!

Just as a heads up, because of issues that have been driving me nuts - i started this blog 3days ago! Finally I got everything to go the way i want!

So I want to post a little update but I have to touch on this crazy happenings in the world.

I will assume that you all have heard about things going on in Libya/Egypt and now Japan?

Libya there's lots of fighting going on nd honestly, my heart goes out to those who are there. The violence HAS to end!

Now the other day it was a tsunami/earth quake in Japan. Which I hear was started because of a volcanic eruption in Indonesia? I'm not 100% if that's true because none of the news places mentioned that [online nd tv] Japan had about 80 aftershocks that got to about as bad as original quake!

The unfortunate part is that not only did the quake [which created the tsunami] affect Japan, there was 3point something wave in Hawaii. Luckily there was nothing else on the west coast [that I've heard of! if I'm wrong, let me know!]

Something interesting I found on someones facebook status!
September 11- World Trade Center
January 11- Haiti Earthquake
March 11- Japan Earthquake
12-21-2012* 1+2+2+1+2+0+1+2=11

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not 100% that the world is going to end in 2012 BUT i do believe that something major will happen probably weather-wise.

Okay, now that I've mentioned about that ON TO THE REST!

Almost 2 weeks ago [has it been that long already!?] I was in Montreal for some shopping!
Mum, mum's friend Lori nd i went - we eventually met up with Lori's daughter Sarah later - to Montreal.

Picked up at 7am!

Okay so anyone who knows me, I am NOT - in any means of the word - a morning person! But it was weird, maybe the excitement or something I was pretty awake. Lori even brought pillows nd a blanket if I wanted to sleep! [told you, everyone knows I'm not a morning person!] Which I thought was really sweet :]

One stop for Tim Horton's coffee's nd tea nd snacks nd back on the road! 3hrs later, we made it to downtown Montreal! Took the subway to one end of Montreal's main shopping street - St. Catherine's - nd walked the rest. The subway was cool nd i fell in love with Montreal! The subway driver blew a kiss at me. WOW! The French really are more friendly!

The subway tunnel. Looks a lot cooler in real life.

If I'm honest, I loved the fact that every one's - men nd women - fashion was so eclectic! It was so stylish nd different from what I normally see, I felt like I fit right in. Don't assume anything, I don't think I'm this fashion plate, icon, trendsetter, etc but I do believe I have good fashion sense. Of course, we all make fashion mistakes. Looking around Montreal, I loved how much people were willing to try out different things.

I love the stores! I went to this awesome/weird thrift store. I got a black nd silver skirt for like 3$!! I'll be doing a video eventually with a bunch of things I bought recently, so I'll explain it all then! In the back of this store they this part that was basically like a pool. 6ft high, nd probably over 10ft wide filled with clothes! Everything in there? Just 1$! My mum found a Hurley jacket for about 7$

Photobucket
This is the clothes pool!

Went to Forever21 [which isn't common in Canada but amazing!], 2 different H&M stores, HMV [which is different than the ones here] and an Urban Outfitters that's more like the ones in the U.S with all the different accessories. Found some interesting things!!

I didn't buy any of them. Actually, I didn't spend as much as anticipated. I happened to luck out with what I did get that were amazingly priced.

So afterwards we met up with Lori's daughter Sarah who is at school in Montreal. She showed us a few neat boutiques - some in good price range, others not so much - nd then we headed to "thEATre" for the most delicious Greek salad ever! The water was kept cold in former wine bottles! So classy. I loved that place so much. Great vibe!

Anyways, needless to say I didn't get home till probably 11pm!

That Thursday I decided to indulge a little nd go to MAC to get my makeup done. I got Centrestage [eyeshadow - Mega Metals], Retrospeck[eyeshadow], pressed powder nd a new brush!

Photobucket

That night was pretty interesting but with not the greatest outcome, so I'm actually skipping over that. *le sigh* Live and learn I suppose.

Saturday [March 5th] my friend Anna ended up coming over. Brie, Daria [season 2&3], 2 bottles of wine nd "Burlesque" .... it was a great night.

Sunday was the Lady Gaga show. Scissor Sisters were the warm-up act, but before they came on there was this lady who must be a DJ because she was working turn-tables nd had a ton of records. She played pretty much all classic rock stuff [Metallica, AC/DC, etc] The crowd really got into her rocking out nd she seemed to be drinking Jack Daniels nd it's possible it was, but I think it was just like apple juice or whatever. She was fun.

Scissor Sisters came on .... i already know/like a few of their songs - "I Don't Feel Like Dancing", "Take Your Mama Out" - nd heard a few new songs which I have yet to hunt for on youtube. The male singer was dressed like ... well ... a stripper. Lol! The girl had similar influence but not like his. Great show though.

Gaga was AMAZiNG! She had these videos going on between set changes. I was really hoping she'd do "Speechless" nd "Eh Eh [Nothing Else I Can Say]" but she didn't sadly. The show was still amazing though. Lots of costume nd set changes. She spoke a lot about her past, which I loved. Got me feeling a little emotional.

Downside: I'm about 5'1" 1/2 nd on the floor I couldn't really see much. I think next time, I'll get 100 levels. It's pointless if I can't see anything.
Suffice to say, I didn't get any photos but Anna did [she's about 6'1" lol!] Just waiting for her to upload.

Another downside to floor is that there's no seats. With my right side being bad lately [more on that coming up!] I really felt like I was going to pass out. I got kneed in the back because some jerk wasn't really looking when I decided to kneel down. Then he said "why the f**k are you on the floor?" Well when one has 2 options - kneel or pass out/throw up - in a public place, it's best to choose the one that doesn't cause a scene.

Got home a little after midnight nd guzzled down a lot of water. My dad had to wake me up the next day because I slept through my alarm.

Now before I explain why I went to the hospital on Wednesday night, I got to say that this pain has been off-and-on for about a month. I have seen my actual doctor nd gotten ultrasound done. I was just waiting on results from that. Wednesday we had pancakes nd I asked for banana to be put in mine. Nuthing was wrong with anything - parents had pancakes nd mum had a bite of banana - but about 20mins [max] after eating, I was basically doubled over in pain.

No, I don't take pain that well but this was ridiculous! I was actually getting sick from the pain. I called TeleHealth to see what to do, they said hospital.
Of course, it was a snowstorm that night.

My mum came with me. We were at the hospital from 8.20pm - 3am .... blood work normal.
Came home nd called about my ultrasound results. Normal.
I now have an emergency appointment tomorrow [monday] to find out what's going on. I'm actually still in pain since Wednesday - sometimes it's bad, other times it's more achy - nd it was puffy/swollen yesterday. I'm hoping the doctor will figure this out soon.

Anyways, so Saturday I ended up meeting some friends for some shopping because I was feeling relatively okay. Spent my giftcard I had left nd got my mum her bday gifts. Came home, surprised my mum with red velvet cheesecake.

Today is her actual birthday [the big 5-0! even though you'd never guess sometimes] nd I surprised her with another card. She loved her stuff.

I got a bed frame today for half the price of a brand new one. It's huge! I'll be posting a photo another time though.

Anyways, I've got lots of cleaning to do. I'll do another post this week - hopefully a video also!

Merry Ho Ho to All!!

MERRY CHRiSTMAS/HAPPY HOLiDAYS TO ALL!
No joke, I just from my granny's place nd even tho i LOVELOVELOVE my family, it's just really loud.

rewind
Last sunday it was my dad's side of the family. Mum, dad, nana, Connor, Debbie [dad's sister] nd Sam. It was a nice quiet buffet dinner at my nana's place.

From them i got:
200$ gift card for the mall [well, 2 gift cards of 100$ each] plus cards nd chocolate. *grin*

That was great. I also got my hair cut - which you'll notice in the pictas - in a very asymetrical look. My right side of my face it's at my chin, but the left side it's pretty much at my shoulder. It swirls around my head going from short-to-long ... i said it was like a rounded staircase.

Needless to say, it's been interesting trying to keep my bangs on the left side since i have a mad cowlick that fights to go on the right side.

Haha!

Connor nd i - he's 7yrs younger nd a foot taller

Dad nd Debbie - dad's sister. can you tell?

Dad, nana nd Debbie

Christmas Eve we don't really do much. I got to open a gift early - which i don't usually do - becuz it was a Hello Kitty ornament. My mum said she wanted me to open it early to put on the tree.

Today was good.
My mum said she was waking me up at 8.30 - which i wasn't thrilled about - but i ended up waking up at 7.30 becuz i really had to pee nd figured it was probably just easier to stay awake then go back to bed just to be woken up again.

I do my parents' stockings so they had to open theirs. I just filled my mum's with Lindor chocolates plus wrapped butterfly cookies that wudn't fit in. My dad's was filled with Sodoku, pencils, pencil cup, chocolates, cooking spices nd a Sweettarts ornament.

My stocking was good. I got makeup wipes [haha, i got thru them so fast!], sponges, pumice stone, 2 pairs of knee high socks [one grey pair, the other black with pink bows at the top], tim horton's gift card, bayshore gift card, cocoa butter chapsticks, lotto scratch cards nd a hello kitty candle.

Parents gifts:
Mum - from me:
MakeUp ForEver "Rock For Ever" palette, pens nd Rexall brushes [they're really good! i was so impressed]
from dad:
Olay gift set nd a few chocolate bars

Dad - from me:
Dove "Just For Men" Fresh set, nd Farmer's Almanac calendar.
from mum:
Remote control truck [you heard me.], batteries nd Inception dvd

From parents: [they don't label who's what anymore]
Hello Kitty pj pants, Hello Kitty nightgown, Hello Kitty hat nd matching mitts, Colour Institute glitter nail polishes, Burlesque soundtrack, Lady Gaga remixs cd, Slumdog Millionaire dvd, Sex and the City 2 dvd, the Audrey Hepburn Story dvd, Dove gift set [shampoo, conditioner, body wash nd deoderant], hair towel-wrap, frame/note board for work, yoga pants, dr scholts flats, desk mirror [double sided nd lights up!] nd .... uhm ... i think that's it?

So we all just relaxed, watched my Audrey Hepburn Story dvd nd then started getting ready for my granny's place. Mum did her makeup with what i got her - while i taught her how to do it. must get a video of that later! - then i did my makeup nd faught with my hair. It's such an arguement. Original idea for makeup didn't work too well so i had to change the idea quick. [when i say quick i mean my parents yelling at me to hurry cuz "we're getting ready nd leaving in 10minutes with or without you!" kinda fast]

Walked up to my granny's.
General run-down: family, talking, food, more talking, yelling, mocking my granny, clean up, gifts, random arguements abt idk what, relaxing, dishes, mocking me *also me getting irritated*, clean up again, nd leaving.

For me: [not putting parents gifts cuz i can't remember what all they got]
granny nd don:
housecoat, La Senza double lotion-body mist, La Senza "La Sexy" lotion, bow headband, pink plaid fedora, black silk shirt with a silver chain strap on one side nd velvet stilettoe pumps.

from Cliff nd Greg:
50$ cash nd 100$ for carlingwood [which i've mentally half spent already]

Gary gave us chocolates cuz he cudn't carry all the bags over.

Home. Just putting everything away is a little complicated becuz i'll be moving rooms in a few weeks - once the other room's carpet gets torn up nd new floors are down - so i'm not sure where to put everything.

New Years Eve plans are getting down pat. Not sure what's happening entirely but i'm going to a friend's place. We're heading to the LCBO first of course ;]

Ooh! I almost forgot! Chris nd i did our gift exchange. He got my mum chocolates nd he got me Kero Barrows! [see the show "Cardcaptors" for his awesomeness!] My mum got him this day-to-day calendar that has origami ideas. I think she wants something made *hint hint*

Anna nd Steph i don't see till New Years Day nd Charlene i won't see till the 8th - but she knows her gift. haha!

Anyways, i'm going to continue cleaning. Sorry about lack of pictures, they're not uploading properly :\ Another time!

Have A Holly-Jolly Christmas!

Hey everyone!

So I probably won't be really doing any makeup videos for a few weeks because of holidays and work. I do plan on doing a few tag videos I've been meaning to get to doing and also I'm doing a holiday mash-up video idea for holidays since there's a few things going on.

I'm not going to promise anything but if I can, I'll do a video before brunch on New Years Day .... I am of age and I am planning on drinking New Years Eve. But hopefully I'll get a chance to do it. I'm not sure what I'll end up doing though.

This weekend is going to be busy. I'm getting my hair done Saturday and then Sunday I've got to get some things for parents' stockings. Then I've got an early Christmas with my dad's side of the family. My cousin might have to work but I'm really hoping he doesn't since I rarely see him. I'll try to get a picture with him but it'll look hilarious since he's a foot taller than me and 7yrs younger. Lol!

Some exciting stuff is happening soon! Keep your eyes peeled!

Here's my 2 holiday makeup vids!

Beautiful, Dirty, Rich

I have the strangest craving for a dirty martini. I'm not even sure why! I love martini's, they're so classy. Makes me feel like i'm someone out of the 50's or something. They're always drinking martinis in old movies so it makes me feel classy like them. Haha, i swear i'm not a big drinker!

I am, however, a big shopper. Christmas is coming up nd i'm soooo excited! I live at home nd next year i cud be moved, so i'm going a bit pricy for my family.

For my mum i got her the MakeUp Forever Rockstar palette

Plus i'll be buying her a simple kit of brushes from Elf that she actually really liked. I'm so happy she's getting into makeup!

I'm getting my dad the original Tron movie from 1982 [i think] nd a calendar ... not sure which one yet.

Matt laughed at me the other day because of how much i spend on makeup. We went to Sephora nd while buying my mum's palette, i got myself this.

Oh yes ... Urban Decay 24/7 Jackpot eyeliners!

I fell in love with them through the picture posted beside them nd i was about to buy a few, then saw the packet of liners. Hello cheaper! [9$/liner, 47$ for the packet] Cannot resist!

What can i say? Makeup is officially my life.

Gala soon so obviously a haul soon ;D!

when did winter get here!?

As I type this a few things are happening
- I am coughing up a lung
- my nose is running like crazy
- it's snowing.

Really? It's not even November. Sometimes I hate Canada.

Anyways, I've been getting my portfolio together. I have my exam, practical AND my portfolio DUE on Nov.5th [next friday] so it's serious crunch time.

Last weekend I was suppose to do Anna and Steph's makeup but since we all haven't really seen each other in awhile - Anna was busy with Steph's mum abt govn't jobs, Steph was wandering nd i was chilling with Stephen in his room - nd then the wine came out nd Wii was played. Needless to say, I lugged my makeup around for nuthing.

I really need a better form of travelling makeup. My bag is hurting my back.

This week I also got mail! I ordered a Z Palette abt a week ago. Also my swap from MakeUpAlley.com came in. [check out that site! it's awesome!]

I did Anna's makeup for Hallowe'en. She went as Sally from the movie Nightmare Before Christmas

Because she's also sick - I got her sick last weekend. We shared a Thai Tuna wrap - I couldn't use any cream base. Foundation then blue eye shadow. I'm happy it worked but looking at the pictures I wish I'd done more blue. One side looks more blue than the other. Oh well.

Anna's very European [Russian - moved here when she was 5yrs old] and has very typical Euro eyes - very small lid - so I had to pretty much create the crease.
For arguement sake, I know Russia isn't in Europe. It's between Europe and Asia

How did I do that?

Easy! If someone has very small crease, you create one with black or grey [or brown] nd put liner on the top lid by the lashes - winging it out. Then take the same colour and go on the eye itself where the crease WOULD be, then line that. Connect with the bottom winged out liner. Makes the eye also appear larger. You can also do the line on the top lashes with liquid liner.

The lip colour in that picture isn't exactly like Sally's and I know that BUT it was the only lip colour I had but she did have the maroon-red at home. That colour was for picture purpose anyways.

Today my mum was a willing model because I was also teaching her how to do it to herself. Since she's applying to jobs she can wear makeup, figured it was easier to teach it to her.

Now I KNOW the foundation is horrible, the camera didn't make it any better. The foundation she had was soooo light! I need to find her some foundation that is her skin colour. It's horrible and I tried so hard to darken it. Took a clean sponge to take a lot off, then took a darker powder on her skin. It just didn't work. Suffice to say, her eye makeup went wonderfully! Neutral brown with purple liner! Perfect.

Urg! I just checked outside and it was still snowing. I am SO not ready for winter! I hate winter. I'm Canadian and I hate winter. Typical. This winter I'm think about trying to snowboard. Not sure. I know how to ski - sort of - but snowboarding seems more interesting. We'll see!

New videos soon hopefully!!
